Pedal for Protein 2 (2015)

The 2nd Annual Pedal for Protein bicycle ride raised $33,643, and was a challenging seven day ride from Crescent City, south of the Oregon border to the Westminster Presbyterian Church in Tiburon.  Sixteen cyclists rode the 425 mile route with six cyclists joining in for one or more days along the way.

2015 – Crescent City to Tiburon – 425 miles, 7 days

The route generally follows the Pacific Coast Bicycle Route – Section 3 published by the Adventure Cycling Association.  It follows US-101 from Crescent City to Leggett, then CA-1 down to near Pt Reyes Station or Stinson Beach, depending on Day 7 route chosen.  Day 7 provides the option of riding over Mt. Tamalpais to Tiburon, or following Sir Francis Drake Boulevard thru Marin County to Tiburon.  We take side roads where convenient.  Details of each day follow.

  • Day One – Crescent City to McKinleyville (71.5 miles, 6,404' of climb)
    • Patricks Point Drive and Trinidad Scenic Drive near Trinidad
    • Clam Beach Drive, Hammond Trail and Mad River Road through McKinleyville
  • Day Two – McKinleyville to Fortuna (60.0 miles, 2,924' of climb)
    • Streets through Eureka
    • Tompkins Hill Road and Eel River Drive near Fernbridge
  • Day Three – Fortuna to Garberville (53.7 miles, 4,883' of climb) Follow US-101 and Avenue of the Giants from Fortuna to Garberville. Side roads include:
    • Wildwood Avenue through Rio Dell
    •  Avenue of the Giants from Pepperwood to Phillipsville
    • Redwood Drive through Redway
  • Day Four – Garberville to Ft. Bragg (70.9 miles, 7,310' of climb) Follow US-101 to Leggett and then CA-1 to Fort Bragg. Side roads include:
    • Benbow Drive from Benbow to Piercy
    • Ten Mile Beach Trail north of Fort Bragg
  • Day Five – Ft. Bragg to Gualala (59.3 miles, 4,540' of climb) Follow CA-1 from Fort Bragg to Gualala.
  • Day Six – Gualala to Tomales (63.5 miles, 4,610' of climb) Follow CA-1 Gualala to Tomales. 
  • Day Seven – Tomales to Tiburon – two routes available
    • Route A - Via Sir Francis Drake Blvd (45.7 miles, 3085' of climb) Follow CA-1 from Tomales to Platform Bridge Rd south of Pt. Reyes Station and then detailed map through west Marin County to Tiburon.
    • Route B - Via Stinson Beach and Panoramic Hwy (46.0 miles, 3672' of climb) Follow CA-1 from Tomales to Stinson Beach, then Panoramic Hwy over Mt Tam to Sequoia Valley Rd  and then detailed map through Mill Valley to Tiburon.
